Peace Light from Bethlehem coming to Bedford on December 17

Posted on Dec 11 2011 - 7:34am

The Peace Light from Bethlehem will be available at Bedford Presbyterian Church (4 Church Rd, Bedford) on Saturday, December 17th, from 1-4pm. Bring your own oil lantern or enclosed candle and the Boy Scouts from troop 414 will share the Peace Light with you. ALL are welcome to participate, so please help spread the word to your friends and neighbors! Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Scout leaders are asked to wear their uniforms.

For over a thousand years oil lamps have been continuously lit in the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Israel. For the last 22 years, a child from Austria has fetched the flame from a grotto lamp and brought it back to Vienna, where it is then distributed at a Service of Dedication to Scouts from all across Europe. These Scouts take the Peace Light back to their own communities and deliver it, with a message of peace, to churches, nursing homes, homeless shelters, prisons, and places of public, cultural and political importance - to anybody who can appreciate the significance of this gift.

Since 2004 the Peace Light has been flown to New York City for Scouts to spread it across the North American continent as well. This year, for the first time, the Daniel Webster Council is bringing the Peace Light flame to New Hampshire and Scouts of all ages as well as their families, friends and the entire community are invited to receive the flame and pass it on to others near and far. Please help us spread this light of peace throughout the entire state of New Hampshire!

More information available at peacelight.org or by contacting NH's Peace Light Coordinator (and pack 114 Webelos den leader), Gretchen Osgood, at pack114den7@gmail.com
